Which Ford Vehicle Can Tow?
Dec 22, 2017 - 2 minute read
Ford is home to one of the most diverse collection of vehicles in the United States. As a result, it caters to a wide range of customers, which have differing automotive needs and wants. Included are people who need workhorses: vehicles who have a considerable amount of towing ability. Ford can provide four such vehicles: the Explorer, the Expedition, the Super Duty, and the F-150.
Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer, which is a midsize SUV, can be an above-average tower: thanks to an upgraded towing package available on one of its upper-level trims: the Sport. Powering it is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6, which supplies 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the Sport trim, the Explorer can tow up to 5,000 lbs.
Ford Expedition
Already a top-level large SUV in the automotive world, the Expedition has no problem handling up to eight people inside it. It’s also renowned for having the highest base tow rating in its class. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 9,200 pounds. That’s more than what rivals like the Chevy Suburban and the Chevy Tahoe offer (8,300 lbs and 8,600 lbs, respectively). Also, the Expedition has trailer sway control as a standard feature; it keeps your trailer in line behind the SUV. Notably, it uses the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 as the smaller Explorer.
Ford F-150
Already a king among full-size pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 is no slouch when it comes to towing. Indeed, it has the best towing capacity of its class: at up to 13,200 pounds. It has an EcoBoost® V6 to thank for that.
Ford Super Duty
Functioning as Ford’s heavy-duty truck, the Super Duty has the most capability of the company’s passenger-oriented vehicles. Powering it is a 6.2-liter V8 with 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque or the 6.7-liter PowerStroke V8 with 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque. Equipped properly, the Super Duty can deliver upwards of 34,000 lbs. in towing capability.
